The Scene: It was a night of sexy sals moves and hot local desing talent-all presented in a high-energy fashion and dance production to help celebrate the opening of the 46th Annual International Downtown Association Conference in Los Angeles. The Rising Stars Fashion Show was produced by Frances Harder of the Fashion Business Incubator(FBI), a non-profit organization that aims to educate an aid owners of start-up fashion labels. The show was staged in conjunction with the Downtown Property Owners Association Fashion District Business Improvement District(BID). The BID welcomed more that 500 colleagues from across the nation and throughout the world as the convention got started. BID executive director Kent Smith told the crowd that the show by designers from the FBI program was an ideal showcase for what's going on in the neighborhood. California Apparel News editor-in-chief Jerry Sullivan served as emcee for the evening, introducing catwalk presentations from Stars by Jennifer Moyers, Poly Ramm, Couture-The Clothing Company, Sky by David Park, Hartnell by Hanna Hartnell and Tease by Teresa. The show kicked off with dance performance by the teenage dance group Genuine five, who performed wearing some of Star's Holiday 2000 line. Select items from the other designers' collections followed. Some of the highlights included Couture-The Clothing Company, whose theatrical designs bring the past into the present in a hip and tredk-setting manner. Sky by David Park also impressed the crowd with ultra-cool and sexy designs. The most dazzling and crowd-pleasing performance was by two-time World Champion salsa dancer Johnny Vazquez and partner Zuly Dextre, both members of Los Rumberos Dance Company. Wearing Tease by Teresa-a line made with salsa dancing in mind- the pair shook, swirled and swung around the stage with blinding intensity that made for a spectacular finish to the night.
